Uniti GLP-1 Coverage Loss: Member Management Guide
This guide details the process for managing Uniti members affected by the upcoming loss of GLP-1 medication coverage, effective January 1, 2026.
Key Dates and Initial Notification
| Date | Event | Impact on Member |
|---|---|---|
| November 1, 2025 | Uniti's insurance plan officially notifies all existing members currently taking GLP-1 prescriptions. | Members will be aware of the upcoming coverage change and may contact us with questions. |
| January 1, 2026 | GLP-1 medication coverage ends. | Members must transition to a new treatment plan or begin self-paying for their GLP-1 medications. |
Clinical Management and Transition Options
Members in the Medical Weight Loss program may remain enrolled and continue to see their Vida Medical Provider (VMP) for ongoing care and support. The VMP will work with the member to determine the best transition plan based on clinical judgment and shared decision-making.
| Transition Option | Description | Prescribing Action |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Lower-Cost AOMs | Switch the member to alternative anti-obesity medications (AOMs) that are covered or lower-cost on their formulary. | VMP adjusts prescription per Vida guidelines. |
| 2. Self-Pay GLP-1 | Member agrees to continue their clinically appropriate GLP-1 medication by paying out-of-pocket. | VMP sends e-prescription to LillyDirect, NovoCare, or the member’s pharmacy of choice. |
| 3. Behavior Change Focus | Discontinue all medication and transition the member to a focus on behavior change (may result in discharge from VMP services). | VMP updates the care plan accordingly. |
Important Note for Providers: Continue to use Vida’s standard prescribing guidelines for all medication decisions.
