Prescription Transition Period
To facilitate the transition, members who are actively utilizing a GLP-1 for weight management as of October 31, 2025, will be permitted to fill prescriptions through March 31, 2026. Members who are impacted by this change will receive targeted mailings from Prime Therapeutics regarding the transition window. Weight Management Resources
Although there will no longer be coverage for GLP-1s for weight management, your health plan continues to provide coverage for care related to obesity, including office visits, nutrition counseling, medically necessary laboratory work, and non-GLP-1 weight loss medications. As an employer, Blue Cross NC remains committed to supporting your wellness journey through additional weight management programs, including nutritional counseling at no cost through employer-sponsored medical plans, capped at 30 visits annually. Please refer to your open enrollment guide for further details. If a member desires to continue using a GLP-1 for weight management in 2026, their healthcare provider can prescribe the medication, which can be filled at the preferred pharmacy or, in certain cases, directly from the manufacturer at a substantially reduced cost.
